Multi-segment Kinematic and Kinetic Foot Model Outcomes for Planovalgus Feet
نویسندگان
چکیده
INTRODUCTION Planovalgus (PV), a combination of pes planus (flat foot) and hindfoot eversion (valgus), is the most common foot deformity in ambulatory cerebral palsy (CP) patients and accounts for between 25-30% of all surgical procedures in children with CP. Despite the prevalence little research has been undertaken to quantify the extent of deviation in foot pathology compared to normal. Quantification of deviations in planovalgus feet may help understand pathologic foot function and assist in designing clinical interventions.

Analysis of a kinetic multi-segment foot model. Part I: Model repeatability and kinematic validity.
Kinematic multi-segment foot models are still evolving, but have seen increased use in clinical and research settings. The addition of kinetics may increase knowledge of foot and ankle function as well as influence multi-segment foot model evolution; however, previous kinetic models are too complex for clinical use. In this study we present a three-segment kinetic foot model and thorough evalua...

BACKGROUND Understanding how kinematic multi-segment foot modelling influences the utility of Plug-in-Gait calculations of the knee adduction moment (KAM) during shod walking is relevant to knee osteoarthritis (OA). Multi-segment foot markers placed on the skin through windows cut in to the shoe provide a more accurate representation of foot mechanics than the traditional marker set used by Plu...
متن کاملModifying the Rizzoli foot model to improve the diagnosis of pes-planus: application to kinematics of feet in teenagers
BACKGROUND A number of multi-segment foot protocols have been proposed to obtain measurements of clinical value. In the clinical assessment of foot pathologies and deformities, such as in the pes-planus, the frontal-plane alignment of the calcaneus and the dynamic properties of the medial longitudinal arch are critical parameters though often neglected by the majority of foot protocols. The aim...
متن کاملTreatment of the progressive neuromuscular planovalgus foot deformity with the combined Batchelor-Grice procedure.
Twelve patients (17 feet) with progressive neuromuscular planovalgus foot deformity underwent an extra-articular subtalar arthrodesis with the combined Batchelor-Grice procedure. All patients were ambulant and received conservative treatment with braces and special orthopaedic shoes before the operation. Postoperatively the feet were immobilized in short leg casts for 6 weeks. Evaluation was ba...
متن کاملDifferences in pediatric vertical ground reaction force between planovalgus and neutrally aligned feet.
Ground reaction forces (GRF) reflect the force history of human body contact with the ground. The purpose of this study was to explore human gait abnormalities due to planovalgus by comparing vertical GRF data between individuals with planovalgus and those with neutrally aligned feet. Second we estimated associations between various measurements and vertical GRF parameters in a pediatric popula...
